Self-Care Arts Taiji Quan / Tai Chi
At Self-Care Arts, our Tai Chi classes offer a unique and holistic journey designed to enrich both your physical well-being and your martial arts capabilities. Under the expert guidance of Sifu Kelly, you'll discover the profound depths of this ancient art.
Tai Chi for Health and Wellness: We believe Tai Chi is a cornerstone of self-care. Our instruction emphasizes whole-body movement, teaching you how to move with grace and power from your core or Dan-tien (The field of the elixir of immortality). You'll learn proper breathing techniques synchronized with every movement, enhancing your internal energy (Qi), improving circulation, reducing stress, and fostering deep relaxation. It's an active meditation that calms the mind and strengthens the body from the inside out.
Tai Chi as a Practical Martial Art: Beyond its wellness benefits, Tai Chi is a sophisticated and highly effective martial art. Our curriculum ensures you understand and can apply the practical self-defense aspects. Through dedicated practice of forms and the essential Push Hands (Tui Shou) drills, you'll develop "soft power," learning to yield, neutralize, and issue force with incredible effectiveness, focusing on softness, sensitivity, and internal biomechanics.
Our Comprehensive Curriculum: Sifu Kelly provides a structured path for every student. You'll progress through foundational forms, starting with the 5-posture Tai Chi, then moving to 8, 13, 24, and 48 postures. For those seeking deeper mastery, we delve into the dynamic and powerful 48-posture Chen Style Tai Chi. Each student receives written curriculums to support their home practice, ensuring clarity and consistency.
Unparalleled Learning Resources: To complement our hands-on instruction, students gain exclusive access to training videos (in class only) featuring Sifu Kelly. These videos ensure you're always learning the correct movements and principles, reinforcing lessons learned in class. You'll benefit from direct, hands-on training with Sifu Kelly, receiving personalized feedback and guidance. Furthermore, hands-on training with other students fosters a collaborative environment, allowing you to develop sensitivity and application skills through partnered practice. Practice that develops discipline to continue to train consistently over the long term, hence making the practice a Self-Care Art that can benefit mind, body, longevity.

Questions & Answerers
Why do I need to learn, or should learn the martial arts component for Taiji Quan / Tai Chi?
Without the Martial Arts component, you don’t have the entire art. You can not learn true Authentic Tai Chi without learning the martial aspects. Does this mean you need to learn how to fight, absolutely not! Its important to learn how the movements would be used so that the function will give you correct biomechanics, mental focus, and understanding of the movements in the form. The movements skill from the martial arts execution is exactly the same movement and energetic skill that you need to practice if you are doing it for healing self or others.
