Self-Care Arts Membership Tier Program Rules & Guidelines

1. Membership Downgrades

Members may downgrade their membership tier at any time.

Example:

A Gold member may downgrade to Silver or Bronze based on their training goals, schedule, or budget.

Please Note:

  • Downgrading may affect curriculum access, testing eligibility, and rank progression.

  • Members who downgrade will only have access to the curriculum and requirements associated with their current membership level.

  • Any curriculum outside of the active membership tier will be paused until the appropriate membership is reinstated.

2. Curriculum Access & Progression

Members may only test, rank, and progress within the curriculum associated with their active membership tier.

Example:

If a Gold member switches to the Bronze once-a-week membership ($110), they may continue attending classes but cannot continue progressing within the Gold curriculum until they return to an active Gold membership.

This policy helps maintain:

  • Fairness across membership levels

  • Proper curriculum progression

  • Consistent instructional standards

  • Integrity of rank advancement

3. Membership Upgrades

Members may upgrade to a higher membership tier at any time. However, because each tier contains additional curriculum material and higher performance expectations, members will be required to start from the point of entry when the tier program was implemented or white sash grade 1.

Important Notes:

  • Higher tiers include more techniques, drills, concepts, and expectations.

  • Members upgrading to a higher tier will start over or from the point of when the tiers was implemented.

  • Students must meet the standards of the upgraded tier for both past and current material.

As an example (curriculum material will vary)  see below:

  • Bronze curriculum may contain 5 techniques

  • Silver curriculum may contain 10 techniques

  • Gold curriculum may contain 15 techniques

If a Bronze member upgrades directly to Gold, they cannot skip the additional techniques and curriculum requirements they were not previously taught or tested on. The student must complete and demonstrate proficiency in all required Gold material before advancing further by returning to the beginning or when the tiers program started.

4. Testing Expectations by Tier

Bronze

  • Minimum passing score: Not applicable

  • Focused on personal growth, curriculum exposure, and flexible pacing

Silver

  • Minimum exam passing score: 60%

  • Higher curriculum retention expectations for Physical & Mental development and performance

  • Formal rank progression

  • Testing on both past and present material

Gold

  • Minimum exam passing score: 80%

  • Advanced curriculum expectations for Physical & Mental development and performance

  • Higher retention, leadership and application standards

  • Testing on all past and present material

  • Formal rank progression

5. Bronze Membership Structure & Rank Policy

The Bronze membership tier is designed for students who want flexible, affordable training at their own pace.

Bronze Membership Options

Bronze Unlimited — $140/month

  • Unlimited class access (currently 2x a week)

  • Bronze curriculum access

  • Bronze level progression eligibility

Bronze Once-a-Week — $110/month

  • One class per week

  • Bronze curriculum access only

  • Slower progression pace based on attendance frequency

  • Students enrolled in a Limited Bronze Membership may focus on one art only and may not switch between or train in multiple arts simultaneously.

For example: If a student chooses Tai Chi, they may only participate in Tai Chi classes.

These options were created to:

  • Keep training affordable for students

  • Avoid unnecessary membership increases

  • Ensure fairness between membership cost and curriculum access

Because higher tiers contain additional material, structure, and instructor expectations, students must be enrolled in the appropriate tier to access those programs.

Bronze Rank Policy

  • Bronze members do not hold official rank standing within Self-Care Arts.

  • Bronze members progress through the curriculum using levels rather than traditional rank designations such as belts or sashes.

  • Bronze progression is designed to focus on:

    • Personal development

    • Curriculum exposure

    • Foundational skill growth

    • Flexible learning pace

Silver & Gold Rank Structure

Official rank recognition, belts, and sash progression are reserved for:

  • Silver Membership

  • Gold Membership

These tiers include:

  • Formal testing requirements

  • Rank advancement standards

  • Curriculum retention expectations

  • Ongoing evaluation of past and present material

This structure helps maintain:

  • The integrity of rank progression

  • Consistent training standards

  • Fairness between membership expectations and curriculum access

“Bronze is designed for students seeking flexible learning and curriculum exposure, while Silver and Gold are structured for students pursuing formal rank progression and deeper curriculum mastery.”

6. Attendance & Progression

Consistent attendance is strongly encouraged for all members. Progression, retention, and testing readiness are directly tied to active participation and practice.

Students who miss extended periods of training may be required to:

  • Review previous material

  • Demonstrate retained knowledge

  • Retest prior curriculum before advancing

  • Please keep in mind due to extended periods of missed training we reserve the right to demote in rank or levels if student did not retained knowledge.

7. Rank Retention & Standards

Higher ranks carry higher expectations in:

  • Technique execution

  • Knowledge retention

  • Training attitude

  • Partner work

  • Leadership

  • Class participation

  • Consistency and effort

Rank is not based solely on attendance, but on demonstrated understanding, application, and embodiment of curriculum standards.
